I don't like to label things as impossible, I prefer to think it's much more complicated. When you learn your native language you don't just learn words, you learn cultures, meanings that make communicating quite natural and coherent. There are different idioms, lexics, vocabularies, words, sounds, pronunciations etc that are acquired involuntarily. The learning of a second language occurs after a process of analysis and understanding where you are aware of the process you are going through. Cultural immersion is an effective way to learn an L2 but I do not consider that it is not possible to reach a native level because there are experiences that are learned with growth. This is the difference between learning and acquiring a language. There are structures in languages that even for native speakers are difficult to explain and I think they would be even more difficult for a learner.
